Celebrating rags to riches!

![]() I’ve been mulling over this week’s newsletter and just now a friend sent me some pics of her visit to Copenhagen Design Museum, specifically an exhibition called 'Fabric of Change' all about textile waste. It really resonated with me – thank you Helen, take me next time! – especially the bit about seeking ways to transform a waste problem into an opportunity. Welcome to DOLLY’s zero-waste business ethos and cue our Kits pre-cut from leftover fabric, bunting made from tiny scraps and, of course, our scrap bags so you can enjoy getting creative with off-cuts.
My zero-waste philosophy goes back a long way. I’ve always found the idea of waste uncomfortable and thanks to my very thrifty, crafty mum I grew up celebrating a re-use philosophy and it’s informed all my work ever since. In fact, a customer asked me just the other day if I was creative as I wrote his name on the DOLLY alteration bag in my nice handwriting. I was surprised because I consider EVERYTHING I do at DOLLY a creative act - my never-ending ideas to use textile waste to create our products and the inspiration I find in thinking up beautiful ways to keep your clothes tip-top, celebrating the ‘glow up’ glamour and uniqueness that mending, especially the visible kind, can offer.
Thanks for joining us to seize the opportunity to transform rags into riches. |
